Applying from outside of California? Excellent! We welcome students from across the U.S. to apply to UCSB.
Admission Requirements
You must meet the same admission requirements as a California resident student but you must earn a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or better in the 15 A-G college-preparatory courses with no grade lower than a C.*
There is no pre-approved list of approved A-G courses for out-of-state schools. You can refer to the A-G course list site – a database of UC-certified course lists in California schools – as a guide for the types of courses that have been UC approved.
*UC temporarily suspended the letter grade requirement for A-G courses completed between winter 2020 and summer 2021 for all students. A-G courses completed during this time with Pass (P) or Credit (CR) grades satisfy appropriate A-G requirements.
UC Application for Non-Residents

California Residency
You may have questions about residency for tuition purposes. Get a residency overview and learn about the UC residency policy on the Office of the Registrar website.
Cost of Attendance
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships provides a Cost of Attendance Calculator to help estimate your college expenses.
